BDSM Contract: Free Customizable & Printable Template

Contrat BDSM Only Chastity présenté dans un porte-documents noir sur un bureau élégant

This BDSM contract template allows two adults to clearly define their roles, the scope of their dynamic, their limits, permitted practices, safety rules, protocols and aftercare.

Each rule can be selected and completed directly on this page. Fill in only the sections that apply to your relationship, then print your customized version or save it as a PDF. Both participants should openly discuss their expectations and each keep a copy of the contract.

This contract covers the main situations that can arise in a BDSM dynamic and provides a particularly comprehensive framework. If you are looking for a simpler option focused only on wearing a chastity cage, key management, removals and orgasm control, use our free customizable chastity contract.

Practical tip. For easier completion, we recommend using a computer. You can also print the blank version and fill it out by hand.

To save your customized contract as a PDF, click "Print My Customized Version," then choose "Save as PDF." The blank contract can also be downloaded, printed and completed by hand.

BDSM Contract to Complete

In sections where only one answer is requested, select only the option you choose. Where multiple answers are allowed, select every rule you want to include. Complete each field associated with a selected option.

This contract allows two adults to define the framework of a BDSM practice, a Dominance and submission (D/s) relationship, or a dynamic in which roles alternate. It sets out the roles, the scope of the authority being entrusted, each person's limits, safety rules and the ways a practice can be stopped or the dynamic suspended.

In this contract, "the Dominant" refers to the person who receives expressly granted authority within the chosen limits. "The submissive" refers to the person who agrees to follow that authority within the agreed framework. When roles alternate, these terms refer to the role held at that particular time rather than a permanent identity.

This document structures a consensual practice between adults. It represents a personal and symbolic commitment. It does not create ownership rights, legal authority over another person or blanket authorization for future practices.

Consent remains freely given and may be withdrawn at any time. Either person may refuse a practice, use a stop signal, suspend the dynamic or end the contract without needing the other person's permission.

Rules concerning consent, health, safety, stop signals and emergencies take priority over every other clause.

After an incident, unexpected stop or use of a safeword
On the following date:
According to the following frequency:

Any modification must be explained, written down and accepted by both participants. No rule may be added or expanded unilaterally.

The contract does not renew automatically. Continuing beyond the chosen duration requires the explicit agreement of both participants.

4. Consent and Suspension of the Dynamic

This contract confirms a general framework. It never replaces the consent required before a practice, while it is taking place and whenever a new situation arises.

Consent to one specific practice does not automatically apply to another practice, a different intensity, a new accessory, another location, recording or the presence of a third party.

Silence, stillness, hesitation or lack of reaction do not constitute agreement. If there is any doubt, the practice must stop and consent must be clearly checked.

Methods Used to Check Consent

Multiple answers may be selected.

Discussion before each session or significant practice
Clear verbal confirmation before starting
Review of a list of previously agreed practices
Regular questions or check-ins during the practice
Written confirmation before a remote task or practice
Other method:

Situations Requiring Immediate Suspension

The following situations always require an immediate suspension. They are not optional.

Request from either participant
Unusual pain or pain different from what was agreed
Injury, illness or physical problem
Emotional distress, panic or a concerning psychological reaction
Inability to communicate or check the other person's condition
Significant impairment of consciousness or loss of responsiveness
Use of alcohol, medication or substances that makes consent uncertain
A serious personal conflict that makes it difficult to clearly distinguish BDSM play from a real disagreement
Defective equipment, missing safety equipment or an environment that has become unsafe

Other situation that must also result in suspension:

A suspension related to consent, health, safety or emotional state never constitutes disobedience and may not result in any consequence.

If a role-play scenario includes simulated refusals, this possibility must be expressly agreed before the session. The safeword and nonverbal signal remain mandatory and always override the scenario.

5. Safewords and Stop Signals

A safeword is an agreed word used to slow down or immediately stop a practice. It should be easy to understand, remember and distinguish from language used during the scene.

Safeword System

Select one answer only.

Traffic-light system using "green," "yellow" and "red"
Custom safewords
Other system:

In the traffic-light system, "green" means the practice may continue. "Yellow" means slow down, reduce intensity or check in. "Red" requires an immediate stop.

Word requiring an immediate stop:
Word asking to slow down or check in:
Word indicating that the practice may continue:

Nonverbal Signal

A nonverbal signal should be established whenever a person may be gagged, restrained, out of breath, unable to speak clearly or placed in a situation where their voice may not be heard.

Multiple answers may be selected.

Three repeated taps with a hand or foot
Drop an object being held in the hand
Repeatedly open and close the hand
Make a clearly recognizable repeated sound
Use the following movement:
Other nonverbal signal:

Primary nonverbal signal or details:

Using the stop safeword or nonverbal signal requires the current action to stop, restraints to be removed promptly without making the situation worse, and the condition of the person concerned to be checked. The practice may resume only after clear communication and renewed explicit consent. No one is required to resume the session.

Using a safeword, nonverbal signal or asking to stop is never a fault, failure or act of disobedience and may not lead to any consequence, punishment or pressure.

Outside an expressly agreed role-play scenario, the words "no," "stop," and any other clear expression of refusal also require an immediate stop. Lack of response, loss of responsiveness or inability to check the other person's condition requires the same stop even if no safeword has been spoken.

6. Health, Safety and Emergencies

Each person voluntarily shares health information that is genuinely relevant to the safety of the chosen practices. No private information unrelated to the BDSM dynamic should be required. Information written here remains confidential and is used only to adapt practices, prevent incidents and respond appropriately in an emergency.

The equipment needed to quickly release a restrained person remains within reach
Keys for handcuffs, padlocks or other devices being used remain immediately accessible
A first-aid kit is available
Water is available before, during or after the session
Equipment is checked before each use
The play space is clear, stable and suitable for the planned movements
A restrained person or someone deprived of certain means of communication is never left unattended
The duration of restraints or positions is limited and checked regularly
Other safety measure:

What to Do in the Event of an Incident

In the event of injury, illness, loss of responsiveness or a concerning psychological reaction, the current activity stops immediately. Restraints are removed as soon as this can be done without making the situation worse.

Address or primary location of BDSM activities:
Emergency contact person, if needed:
How to contact this person:
Additional information that may be useful to emergency responders:

When the situation requires it, emergency services should be contacted promptly. The role being played, the private nature of the dynamic or concern about interrupting a session must never delay seeking help.

7. Limits and Interests of Both Participants

Limits apply to both participants. The Dominant also has the right to refuse a practice, role, responsibility or intensity they do not wish to take on.

A hard limit is a practice or situation that is prohibited. A conditional limit is a practice that may be considered only under the written conditions. An interest is something to discuss, not automatic permission.

This contract never serves as approval for those practices, which require a separate framework and enhanced risk assessment.

18. Communication, Debriefs and Aftercare

Out-of-role communication helps distinguish a genuine difficulty from an element of play. Each person must be able to express their condition, limits and feelings without having to maintain a Dominant or submissive role.

Aftercare refers to the care and support planned after a session or intense experience. These needs may apply to the submissive, the Dominant or both participants.

Communication Before a Session

Multiple answers may be selected.

Check each person's physical condition
Check emotional state and stress level
Confirm any limits or special restrictions for that day
Review planned practices and intensities
Review safewords and the nonverbal signal
Confirm aftercare needs
Check available time and confirm there are no urgent obligations after the session

Multiple answers may be selected.

Immediate brief discussion after the session
Another check-in a few hours later

Debrief within the next two or three days
Debrief before the next session
Other time:

The debrief may cover what was enjoyed, what was difficult, any remaining marks or pain, emotions that came up, limits that should be adjusted and practices that should not be repeated.

A delayed emotional reaction, low mood, fatigue or need for distance should be taken seriously. It does not prove that the session failed or that either participant did something wrong.

19. Modification, Pause and End of the Contract

The contract may be modified, suspended or ended by either participant. No role, title, commitment or previous agreement removes this right.

Changing the Rules

Select one answer only.

Every modification must be written, dated and signed by both participants
Every modification must be written and clearly confirmed by both participants
Modifications are added in an appendix to the contract
Any major modification requires a new contract
Other method:

A rule agreed only verbally does not replace a written term of the contract when it expands authority, adds a practice, increases intensity or removes a safeguard.

If there is a contradiction or uncertainty, the rule concerned is suspended until a clear version is accepted by both participants.

Temporary Pause

A request from either participant is enough to suspend the contract. The following situations may also justify a pause.

Illness, injury or recovery period
Emotional difficulty, stress or significant fatigue
A real-life conflict between the participants
Work, family or personal obligations
Distance or temporary inability to communicate properly
An incident requiring reflection or a review of the rules

Other reason:

During a pause, authority, tasks, protocols, consequences and availability obligations no longer apply unless a safety rule or practical arrangement is expressly maintained by both participants.

Conditions that may remain in place during a pause:
Conditions required before resuming:

Resuming requires explicit agreement. The passage of time or apparent resolution of the issue does not automatically restart the dynamic.

Ending the Contract

Either participant may end the contract immediately with a clear request. No notice period, meeting or agreement from the other participant may be required.

Multiple practical arrangements may be selected.

The contract ends on the chosen date or deadline if it is not renewed
The ending is confirmed in writing to avoid misunderstandings
A closing discussion is offered but is not mandatory
Other ending arrangement:

Steps to Take After the Contract Ends

Multiple answers may be selected.

Immediate end of titles, protocols and role rules
Return of loaned items, keys, documents or accessories
Removal of digital access and changes to relevant passwords
End all location sharing
Apply the rules selected in section 17 concerning images
Maintain confidentiality commitments
Closing discussion if both participants want one
No-contact period under the specified conditions
Other measure:

Deadline for returning items:
Conditions of any no-contact period:

Ending the contract does not authorize revenge, threats, disclosure of private information, improper retention of access or use of images against the wishes of the person concerned.

Final Statements

By signing this contract, both participants confirm that they:

Are adults and are participating voluntarily in the dynamic
Have read and understood the selected rules
Have discussed their expectations, limits and safety needs
Understand that consent remains revocable at any time
Know the selected safewords and stop signals
Understand that the contract represents a personal and symbolic commitment
Each have an accessible copy of the contract

The contract grants no ownership rights over any person. It does not permit forcing a practice, holding someone against their will or preventing someone from seeking help.

The consent, safety, confidentiality and contract-ending clauses remain applicable even when a custom rule, title or scenario could otherwise be interpreted differently.

How to Complete and Use This BDSM Contract

Start by entering the participants' identities, their roles, the scope of the dynamic and its duration. Then define the core rules concerning consent, safewords, health, safety and each person's limits.

Every selected option should reflect a genuine agreement understood by both participants. Avoid vague rules, overly broad permissions and conditions that are impossible to apply. When a field asks for details, clearly specify the relevant practices, locations, durations or limits.

Optional sections should be completed only when they genuinely apply to your dynamic. A BDSM relationship does not automatically involve sexuality, daily protocols, humiliation, financial control or third-party participation.

Finally, review the entire document to make sure no options contradict one another. Once the contract is complete, print two copies and sign them. Each participant keeps a complete and accessible copy.

Which Sections of the BDSM Contract Should You Complete?

The sections covering participants, the scope of the dynamic, consent, safewords, health, limits, communication and ending the contract form the core of the document. They establish who is participating, which rules apply and how the dynamic can be stopped.

Physical and sexual practices should be selected only after they have been discussed specifically. A permitted practice must remain within the selected intensity, approved body areas, accepted accessories and planned safety conditions.

The sections covering protocols, tasks, consequences, humiliation, third parties, digital control, money and images are optional. A section that does not apply to your relationship can simply be left unused. The contract does not need to use every available option to be coherent.

For an ongoing or 24/7 dynamic, schedule regular review dates. These reviews make it possible to remove a rule that no longer fits, adjust a limit or confirm that the entrusted authority remains compatible with both participants' everyday lives.

Is a BDSM Contract Legally Binding?

A BDSM contract is primarily a personal and symbolic agreement. It can formalize the roles, limits, practices and commitments chosen by the participants, but it does not give either person legal authority over the other.

Consent remains freely given and may be withdrawn at any time. Signing the document does not replace the consent required for each practice and never allows anyone to ignore a refusal, safeword, request for a pause or decision to end the dynamic.

No clause can create ownership rights over a person, force a practice or prevent a participant from seeking help. Rules concerning health, safety, confidentiality and ending the contract always remain the priority.

The purpose of the document is therefore to make the dynamic clearer. It creates a record of the decisions made, reduces misunderstandings and provides a shared framework for discussing, changing, suspending or ending the rules when necessary.
